Camping is a tremendous and memorable
adventure for all to enjoy, both on longer holidays and on special
short breaks. We are less than one hour from the city so it's just
a short trip to get away from it all. Ashley Gorge offers the ideal
relaxation stop.
The
fully serviced park contains tent sites, power sites, a bunkhouse
complex and cabins, as well as a large communal kitchen and dining
area, wonderful bright ablutions and a laundry. The Camp Shop provides
all your daily camping requirements.
| A Seasonal Note from Your
Hosts... |
At last we have
had Summer, for future reference the best month to camp
is APRIL! What a beautiful month we have had, the evenings
were a bit cool but the days were magnificent.
The park is taking
on its Autumn coat of red, orange and yellow. It is worth
a visit even if you do not stay. Come on out, any weather
is great for a drive in the country and ice cream. Please
drive carefully on the grass, we do not appreciate selfish
hoons doing wheel spins on our grass and spoiling the area
for others.
We have had a
very busy April, at Easter nearly all our powered sites
and a few of the unpowered sites were booked, the children
were swimming in the river, it was a great weekend. A couple
of weekends later, we were pleased to host a wedding and
a Girl Guide camp, that caused a bit of a logistics issue,
but the Guides were very helpful in organising the cars
going to the park, the wedding, and the camp. A big thank
you to them. We have had other groups using our bunkrooms
and still have a few more bookings coming up.
We have done
a lot of pruning and thinning of the trees to give the grass
a chance to dry out and the campers a bit more parking and
playing space. At Waitangi Weekend we were as full as we
get at New Year, so we instigated a one car per site with
extra parking in a separate area for the second car or trailer.
This gave the children a lot more room to play close to
their own tents and made it safer, as those who had to drive
in were able to see the children. It worked really well
and we will probably do this again next Christmas.
As we move into
winter we look forward to seeing you in the spring and remember,
we do not get the Easterly in the camp so even if it is
cold in Christchurch or along the coast it can still be
a beautiful day in Ashley Gorge.
We will still
be open through the winter if your caravan is warm or you
can always book a cabin and the bunkrooms are still available
for groups.

During the day you
can sit back, relax and listen to the birdsong, or enjoy some local
activities which include exploring the tranquil bushwalks, swimming
in the safe Ashley Gorge river, bike riding and fishing. There is
also an on-site playground.
Whether you are picnicking
for a day or staying for a week, hosts Dave and Jan Shelton look
forward to welcoming you to their park and sharing this beautiful
piece of native bush, birds and river in the heart of the Oxford
district.

"Engineers Without Borders
New Zealand" Retreat
"We recently held our national retreat at Ashley Gorge Holiday
Park. The location was great, allowing our members from around the
country and overseas to fly in to Christchurch and get there within
50 minutes. The place felt really secluded and was a great chance
to give our team a taste of the South Island without having to drive
for hours and hours. The facilities were tidy, well priced and being
able to self cater meant we were able to keep costs down. All in
all a great experience. Thanks guys!"
