We have had a really busy Winter and Autumn, preparing for our new Qualmark Assessment and then dealing with the wind damage, as well as catching up with the usual out of season maintenance, it seems like we have not stopped.

We were pleased to be assessed at:  “Three Plus Stars” with Qualmark. The following is a quote from our assessor, Di Harris:

“Ashley Gorge Holiday Park is camping kiwi style the way it used to be. Your generous hosting and understanding of the family camping experience shines through with things like the swings in the trees – good for you! The combination of the park next door to the reserve is another bonus for the park and gives you exposure to a captive audience.”

Thanks Di, we really appreciated the time and effort put into the report and we will try to do as many of the suggestions for improvement as we can.

We had just got settled after the assessment and the wind hit, we had mowed the lawns and everything was looking smart, the bicycle track along the river had been finished by the periodic detention workers and was looking great.  We were thinking how lucky we were to be missed by the first big blow and then the second one hit. The camp was strewn with branches and leaves and rubbish (the wind had emptied some of the rubbish bins), the reserve lost 7 large Poplars (two over the cycle track and into the river) and 1 large wattle along with sundry branches and smaller trees. It has taken weeks to clean up with help from friends and Tree Tech.  We are just about back to normal and heading into Christmas.

We are working on a new web site and if you are reading this you have probably noticed the difference, we have moved into a new format which I will be able to update myself (hopefully) if I can take in all the info. This will enable more frequent updates as I will not be waiting on someone else to change stuff after I have had time to send it to them.

The Christmas/New year bookings are  looking good, with quite a few people deciding to come out to our beautiful park after New Year and taking advantage of the slightly quieter times, where you can spread out a bit more. We are looking forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones over the coming months.
